Amelia Deering ‘23 and Jarrett Hill ‘23 help Worcester Central School students develop a community

This spring, first-year students led after-school educational programs at the Worcester Central School in Worcester, NY. As part of Katie Boardman's Introduction to Museum Education and Interpretation class, student groups worked to develop and facilitate short, fun educational activities for young learners. By developing activity plans that worked within NYS Next Generation Learning Standards, the first-years were able to understand the careful planning and creativity required to develop educational programming for young audiences in grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. When the afternoon came to lead the program, CGP students learned that anything could happen, and that flexibility can make a program even more enriching!

This opportunity gave students practical experience working with young audiences and revealed to just how creative and engaged these young learners can be. We would like to say a special thanks to Dawn Handy, the Worcester Central School staff, and all the enthusiastic young learners graduate students worked with, for making this experience possible.
