Exhibits by CGP students now on display

Three exhibitions by CGP students are now on display for the public. The exhibits were created by second year students in the Museum Exhibitions course taught by Dr. Gretchen Sorin. Each exhibit presents a unique topic and approach.

Hop City Pickers

This exhibit explores the people who picked Hops in 19th century Otsego County. At this time, Otsego County produced an incredible amount of hops until a blight wiped out the abundant crop. Using oral histories and historical objects and documents, the Hop City Pickers exhibit brings to light the "pickers," who traveled from far and wide to help harvest the hops. The exhibit is on display at the Fenimore Art Museum Research Library, which is open to the public M-F from 10 am-5 pm.

Meet Me in the Mountains: Making Memories at Great Camp Sagamore

Commissioned by Great Camp Sagamore, an Adirondack Great Camp once owned by the Vanderbilt family, this exhibit is on display in the Albany International Airport. In addition to exploring the history of Great Camp Sagamore, the exhibit discusses Sagamore's long tradition as a place of gathering, a tradition that continues to this day. Albany Airport travelers can see the exhibit on display in the terminal on Concourse A.

Glimmerglass Excursions: Wooden Boats on Otsego Lake

This team created an exhibit documenting the history and use of wooden boats on Cooperstown's own Otsego Lake. The exhibit can be found in the Carriage Barn at Hyde Hall in Gimmerglass State Park, and features historic images and documents from the area. Also on display is a 19th century boat, which was found in Hyde Bay after being submerged for years.

Congratulations CGP Class of 2017!

On Saturday, May 13, CGP graduated 31 students, one of its largest classes ever. In the morning ceremony at SUNY Oneonta, graduates were hooded by Dean Dr. Tracy Allen. The evening CGP ceremony, held at the Cooperstown High School featured speeches by Dr. Gretchen Sorin, Dr. Tracy Allen, and student Andrew Lang. The faculty members each chose several students to share stories about, and special awards were given out. A video of the evening ceremony can be found on the CGP Facebook group.

As a class gift, each student donated $31 dollars (representing 31 students) to the Ann Stewart Internship Fund in memory of our much loved Ann Stewart. With help from family, students raised $2,000 dollars for the fund, which is now fully endowed. If you, too, would like to contribute, you can do so here.
